Outbound Sales

Still remember the times of Clint Eastwood and his western classics ? The giant bell that summons the people of the town for the gatherings? This is where the concept of Outbound Sales traces its origin from.

When you are making people reach out to you for the product, then it is Outbound Sales. This includes the traditional marketing campaigns like television advertisements, posters, demo shows etc. which we have all experiencing in our day-to-day lives.

In digital world, Outbound Sales broadly refers to cold calling. Cold calling refers to the process of making telephonic calls, emails etc. to the identified potential customers regarding our product.

Nature of Outbound Sales

Outbound Sales are generally of huge size involving a high budget as it’s principal is to brand the product as the legible solution to the problem it is developed to solve.

Let’s have it with a general example. The reach of a Cola in the hands of Pacino would be way more effective than Morgan Freeman’s. Indeed both having the immense popularity, but the view of public towards Al as an icon would be selling point of the product.

Achilles heel?

Outbound sales are greatly bound to budget constraints. For being a startup in Cola manufacturing, you can never dream of neither hiring Al as your ambassador nor buying the advertisement time in Big Bowl.

So, the major weakness is that reduction of budget is directly proportional to the reach of your product. The reason for demanding this huge budget is the hit and miss ratio. Both hiring a local model for our ad in CNN and telecasting Al‘s ad in local TV is inefficient. Since, the basic ideology of Outbound Sales is to “reach to the masses in a massive way”, many startups can’t come up with enough manpower to cold call basically everyone on the phone directory.

In cases of cold calling, there are many a disadvantages. Most people will get annoyed on getting calls when they are in the middle of their work. I believe even people in Sales are not an exception. Emails are made even easier. SPAM!

Inbound Sales

The whole concept of Inbound Sales is to analyze the potential customers those who are in need of our solution, guide them by providing a walk-through over their problem and explain them how our product will be the perfect solution they are seeking.

The approach entirely contrasts the Outbound Sales practices. While Outbound Sales are generic Inbound Sales practices tend to be more concerned with the certain identified individual and their problem. In Inbound Sales, there would be a more casual two way conversation between the sales person and the customer. The sales person would listen to the needs and goals of the individual and his challenges. Then he would be providing the course of the solution and along with that a proposal to buy his product.

In this way, the customer would be more satisfactory with the product. On the other hand, the hit ratio dramatically increases and the company’s cost is reduced dramatically. Making a two way communication also helps the customers and sales people to utilize their time efficient. They can schedule their meetings on common terms and can avoid any sour experiences.

Yin and Yang

It can be said that the adoption of any of the above methods would be entirely depended on the type of business you own, the target customers and the budget constraints.

If you are developing an entirely new product that is only applicable for the elites? Are your target customers individuals who would hate cold calls? Is your budget not allowing for a mass sales recruitment? In these cases, you can use Inbound Sales which will entirely fit into these conditions.

But using Inbound Sales has its fair share of problems too. It’s time consuming and replaceable. The implementation of Inbound Sales starts from contents and in their promotion to viewers. We can safely say that a viewer can view multiple contents and the judgement is left to their own.

Conclusion

The experts in sales had always been constant in one thing. Adapting. These methods are not any kind of formulations to be followed. They are proven establishments that we can get inspired from and the decision of which to follow when is entirely dependent on your own.

WHAT MADE ‘CHERNOBYL’ A NONPAREIL MINI-SERIES?

‘The once in a decade HBO mini-series becomes one of the best rated in its genre due to its hard-hitting nature’

CHERNOBYL

A word we would have come across every time while discussing the term ‘NUCLEAR DISASTER’, which addresses to the catastrophic and devastating nature of ‘ATOM'(it should be nucleus though… still who cares!!). It’s a pity if you can’t remember your 11th grade physics but it isn’t an excuse if you don’t know the name which led to the downfall and eventual shattering of one of the world’s most prominent power then, the USSR.

Even if you are one of the physics’s and history’s unwanted children, the series will hit you hard with everything it has got and will devour your moral compass, under the citation – you should no ‘know’ the language(it’s not a fucking fast and furious bruh! GET REAL) and you should have senses of being a human(indirectly refers to the sense of not asking any fucking heroic action sequences in a drama series. And of course, in a polite manner*). ‘Cause it relies on the inner conflicts of the characters, their unsatisfied and precarious obsession in an endless chain of monopoly , the superfiction of the dysfunctional government body and it’s sturdy nature of abiding to the ‘illusion of prestige’ rather than it’s people’s prosperity. So, let’s see what made the narration of the nuclear disaster, a series to be accredited in the hall of fame(if any!).

EPISODE 1 :- 1:23:45

“‘According to them, the just world is a sane world. And there’s nothing sane about Chernobyl‘”

VALERY LEGASOV

The series kicks off with a male character recording and playing his confessions(sorta thing). It is visually depicted that he is in frustration or guilt over some things he had done before, but the audiences(ME!) are unsure of it. But after few minutes, it becomes apparently clear what’s it(SPOILER!). The scene sets the best tone for a series with a pretext history in its plot.In the course of events, you’ll be following the same character(non-linear narration). So, it takes a high sense of sturdy nature to start your script with that sorta scene ’cause that character would soon become like a kind of protagonist(Note: NOT A HERO). In the first scene, the creator’s impales your heart with a deep dagger, that they’re not here for a boring heroic manifestation but for something like a sour, true-tongued docu-drama(say like ‘THE FOUNDER’). The following scenes establishes the aftermath of the explosion. Let’s not get deep into the story and scenes, but the next 20-30 minutes will explain how extreme the situation is and how the authorities are arrogant in accepting the world’s biggest nuclear disaster happening before their own eyes, just sticking to a single question(Note: The series will eventually lead to the answer) and trying to neglect a disaster happening in front of their own eyes(actually they fucking did that to the greatest extension possible) sticking to their notion of the country’s pride before anything else(before their own people!). Some particular characters are given great detailing and screen space ’cause they’re the characters, the people living among ourselves(Especially that oldman character in the bunker. He is the wholesome embodiment of a typical USSR authority). The starter of the series ends with a scene implying that the circumstances aftermath have exploded into a terrible scenario.

EPISODE 2: Please Remain Calm

Legasov: We are asking for your permission to kill three men.

Gorbahev: Well… Comrade Legasov… all victories inevitably come at a cost.

The episode starts off with a female character, Ulana Khomyuk, a cumulative portrayal of a group of scientists who helped in recovery of the debris, the disaster(also refers to the disastrous nature of the delusional humans), identifying a high spike in radiation. This episode is primarily set up to assert the viewers that the situation has gotten far worse to contain within. The dismissive authorities are rebuked by the intensity of the disaster happening(can say caused by them) before their eyes and their communistic idealism of pride being crumbled by the forces of nature. Apart from all these fearsome scenes which establishes the extremity, there are some other few constructive parts I personally loved so much. First, the scene where Gorbachev demonstrates that he is the supreme. The scene was quite poetic such that it portrays Gorbachev is concerned by the seriousness of the situation but admonishes Legasov for not reprimanding his supremacy. The next, obviously is Boris Shcherbina(sometimes Shcherbina, sometimes Boris). He is the character, whom we would hate and despise in beginning but in the further progress of the series, he is surely gonna be the man we would love. And most of all, when Legasov lies to a couple in the hotel. In that particular scene, the creators has inferred that, the moral compass of the assumed protagonist is shallow.

EPISODE 3:- Open Wide, O Earth

(pointing to inhaler) if these are working you’d be wearing them

GLUKHOV

The previous episode ends with a prominent high note, leaving the viewers in a cliffhanger. This episode continues after that and follows the previous note in a prominent positive note. But there arises another and more complex problem again(come on guys!! isn’t it obvious?). Without getting more in to the plot, these are gonna be solved by exposing more men in the area. There comes an interesting characters I loved the most in the series, the Tula coal miners. These guys are arrogant, headstrong and fearless and whatever the laws and rules the diplomatic statesmen make, they just don’t give a single fuck about it. Yet, of all that, they decide to do the job, which can to put all their lives in grave danger, just ’cause they are the only ones capable of doing it. It typically portrays the act of heroism, the action of a common man, to do something good, just because he can do it. This episode also makes the plot to diverge in two ways. One seeking how did all these things happened and another is phase of recovering. It also depicts the steady deterioration of a firefighter in Chernobyl as he is climbing his stairs of death in the most gruesome way ever imagined. Although, while reading this, it may seem like a cliche, it adds depth to the emotional parameters. At last, it gives us the glimpse of uncompromising political monopoly played in the higher ups, even in such a apocalyptic condition.

EPISODE 4:- The Happiness of All Mankind

We live in a country where children have to die to save their mothers. To hell with your deal.

To hell with our lives.

KHOMYUK

After cleaning up all the mess(just don’t imagine a house ransacked by rats!) it all comes to prevent the place from further mishaps. If you are thinking what else can go wrong(just as naive as me), you(we) have got the wrong idea. These political(say psychopathic) maniacs are gruesome and more menial than we all are thinking. They are the most troubled motherfuckers who lacks empathy which makes them essentially humane. Again, the pawns(of course human life. You know it’s cost-effective), are rolled over like pinball, in a hazardous place, where even the electronic devices are overloaded due to radiation(You’ll understand it while watching the series. For now, just imagine you’ll become like Tony stark after using infinity gauntlet if you’re to be exposed for a minute). It also insists the serious emotional trauma of the people, while confronting the worst conditions of Chernobyl(the character of a soldier, Pavel). It also plays as the convergent spot of the two main branches, the plot had split. This episode, is a whole package, which benevolently sets way for the grand finale.

EPISODE 5:- Vichnaya Pamyat

When the truth offends, we lie and lie until we can no longer remember it is even there. But it is still there. Every lie we tell incurs a debt to the truth.

Sooner or later that debt is paid. And that is how an RBMK reactor core explodes.

lies…

LEGASOV

You might have recognized that the series is dwelling in between two branch plots: The acts of recovery after the catastrophe and how did it happened in the first place. ‘Cause all over the series, the great science minds of the nation are bugged by the same question. The grand finale, concludes this epic mini-series, by answering the question in both ways, technical and ethical, conveyed by the testimony of three of its protagonists. It serves as the fitting end as it deeply questions the conspirate and ethical nature of the government body itself. As of it, I have nothing else to say ’cause it’s all about grasping the feel and the context, not dissecting the plot. The finale has a striking match with ‘Felina'(Breaking Bad. What did you expect me to put on? ‘THE IRON THRONE’) where emotion is felt all inside you just because the writing of the series is too great to neglect.

P.S: WATCH THE START OF SEASON 1 AFTER THE FINALE TO GET THE FEELS.

So to conclude…

And that’s it. This surely isn’t everything what I’ve planned to put forth but the series is so magnificent that every character and every frame is so much detailed and worth explaining. But as a buff, I want everyone, to feel it for yourself so I’ve reduced extorting spoilers as much as I can(it was so tough though!). To conclude, I’d like to say that, it’s surely an overwhelming experience, more than worth watching. So until next time, JA!!

HAS THE MASTER CRAFTSMAN LOST IT?

Selvaraghavan and NGK

Who is Selvaraghavan?

“Selvaraghavan is a the kind of auteur who always has a control over his writing. All of his films have either been misunderstood or often termed as gory. Despite being neglected by the so called mainstream audience he manages to have a hardcore fan following of which most of em are filmmaker aspirants.”

NGK

NGK alias Nandha goplan kumaran is a “psycho-socio political drama” directed by Selvaraghavan which helms surya sivakumar in the lead role

Other cast:

Sai pallavi as geetha kumari. Rakul preet sing as vanathi. Bala singh as giri annan. Ponvannan as pichaimuththu. Ilavarasu as Pandiyan.

The movie starts off with kumaran narrating the story.. he says my name is nandha gopala kumaran & people call me NGK. The nextcoming 10 mins proves that Selvaraghavan hasn’t lost his cinematographic sensibilities despite the fact that his last movie was 6 years ago. Is it so?? Really?? Yeah the master craftsman has always been known for his renaissance colour theories but the unknown fact is that he has a versatile sense of making the audience gimmick the camera movements. Sounds interesting right?? Yeah in those ten minutes his camera follows, tracks, and pans according to the movement of the charatcer NGK. Can u imagine a daring filmmaker who establishes the one-line of the story in a single shot and then narrating the story?? 🤷 Ngk and giri walk through the drains and reach to a height in the stairs where MGR is focused in the banner behind. It explains the character graph of NGK.

The upcoming scenes slowly try to establish NGK as a passionate youth who has completed his M.Tech in environmental science. Envi.science?? Yeah the surroundings, the effects 🤷 etc… NGk does organic farming and he plays the do-gooder types of cameos in other people’s lives.. the scene where, ngk sees a group of women and men standing over the same place for a week..also has a Selvaraghavan stamp on it. Because the girl doesn’t ask help from NGk directly…Instead, she stares NGK for a week so that ngk wears the do-gooder jacket there.

NGK is fed up by the fact that he couldn’t solve their problems.. by then, there comes his school friend raja who is just a low-case volunteer in the opposite party of the state. He makes a phone call to the councilor within a minute and solves the problem. This act kinda lures into ngk as he sooner thinks that people like him, spend years to get their work done whereas politicians do it in a matter of seconds. Slowly the power of politics creeps into him as he sees himself in the mirror and spatter his face.

“The background score teases us as if it’s a foreplay before the actual sex”

As per giri annan’s suggestion, NGK meets the local MLA pandya to solve all the problems in the area. This scene has a strange music. The background score teases us as if it’s a foreplay before the actual sex. Because, as soon as NGK gets his job done and thanks MLA, he asks “u are not gonna leave this place without lending me a hand right??” the hand for a hand human theory. Giri assures that NGK along with a cadre of 500 will join the party and NGK partially nods yes for this statement.

After this, NGK suits into the typical Selvaraghavan’s protoganist.. the character arc which explains the journey of the protoganist. NGK joins pandya, cleans toilet, cooks food, drops girl for pandya, plays the sombu-thooki guy and earns name from pandiya. The Selvaraghavan moment which sounded grrrccchh was when a guy asks pandiya to lend him NGk as a layman and pandya replies “ask me my wife but not kumaran(ngk)”😝

“Sai pallavi becomes the lady Selvaraghavan psych. ..for an instance she resembled a bit of jealousy in chandramukhi too”

Since kumaran ( NGK) has become inevitable for pandiya he takes kumaran along with him to meet the higher officials (CM & the two men termed as the muppadai) and vanathi who is introduced to us as an marketing PR in Indian politics. Kumaran plays a safe but smart show to outsmart pandiya so that he manages vanathi to make a mind of him. Vanathi is the most illogical female character ever written in a Selvaraghavan film.just imagine vanathi is introduced to us as a gigantic marketing PR but she behaves just like a yet another stupid girl in the world of tamil cinema. This is the first time that a character is illlogically written in a Selvaraghavan film.😑 On the other hand geetha kumari (sai pallavi) is fascinating. She outperforms “yamini” (female lead in mayakkam enna) in the sniffing scene.. she looks like as if she’s a male psych protoganist of a typical Selvaraghavan film.

From here the story travels in subtext to the fullest.. subtext?? What are u talking?? The best difference that i can give to make Selvaraghavan outshine anyother filmmaker/writer in the world is the “motion and dialogue delivery of a character over time” sounds confusing?? Lets take a long scene in aayirathil oruvan where there are no dialogues for over 5 minutes but parthiban’s emotions and his way of expressing them makes the scene astounding.. the only & other 2 filmmakers to “my knowledge” who are capable of creating these kind of impacts are sergei eissenstein, the man who established kinofist theory and of course Martin Scorsese.

“The subtext and the puns are kinda new to tamil cinema.. so people take time to understand the reality&duality of the character”

Now do this long shot montages which travels in a subtext try to make a difference in the persona of the movie?? Yay! This is the director’s intended way to make the character look fishy. I’m not gonna write about the second half of the film… Because there are already fan theories and conspiracies out in the social media which might help u readers. Every scene in the second half might seem like a discontinuity but the truth is that the plot & character graph of NGK is unravelled to an extent so that the viewers can unravel them completely.

SELVARAGHAVAN & COMPROMISATION

Has Selvaraghavan become more fictional than being realistic?? The sadest part & the answer is “ a little nay! And a big yay!” Selvaraghavan is being viewed as a standalone filmmaker when it comes to handling the craft. The master craftsman never gave a damn about the star image even if it was for kamal hasan… He always wanted what he wanted and his love for cinema fetched him ardent fans.. but are we seeing the same Selvaraghavan after 6 years??? No😥

“The sudden mushrooms and surya fans might call it as a masterpiece but a selvaraghavanian doesn’t”

As a ardent Selvaraghavan fan, It is terribly disappointing to experience a so called “mass fight sequence” in the hospital toilet which has a even more cliche mass bgm😑…even the fight sequence is digestable to an extent assuming the fact that it is written for the star value. but the placement and making of anbae peranbae song makes the movie look like it is written and directed by A.R. Murugadoss or a Shankar or any other commercial director of tamil cinema.

selvaraghavan has not lost his craft completely but yes he has disappointed his fans & filmmaker aspirants”
